Kinkazan Island

Kinkazan (金華山) is a small island in the Pacific coast of Miyagi prefecture, Japan. It is a beautiful and naturally rich piece of land with deers roaming around freely. The whole island is forested and is a part of a 445 meter high mountain, which we would call hill in Nepal 🙂

On March 11, 2012, it was badly hit by the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami as it was one of the closest land parts from the epicenter.

We were there in 2006. Then, things were good – plenty of visitors and fishermen in ships and on ground. We were on a hike to the top of the mountain and around the island. We drove to Ishinomaki port, one of the most badly hit areas of the earthquake and tsunami. Then we sailed to the island by ferry. Here are a few shots from that trip.
