हामी अधिकांश नेपालीहरूलाई सानो छँदा ‘पुलिस’ शब्द सुन्नेबित्तिकै भय उत्पन्न हुन्छ । झन प्रतक्ष देख्ता त झनै मनै ढक्क फुलेर आउने । र, त्यो मानसिक दर्दलाई कम गर्दै ‘सामान्य’ हुनको लागि वर्षौं लाग्दो रहेछ ।
बच्चलाई सम्झाउन, तह लगाउन झगडा गर्दा ‘पुलिस’ भन्ने ‘राक्षसी जन्तु’ आउने घुर्की सुनाएर हाम्रा अभिभावकले क्षणिकरूपमा बच्चाहरूलाई ‘तह’ त लगाउछन् नै, तर त्यो त्रासले ती अबोध बाल-बालिकहरूलाई वर्षौंसम्म गाँजिरहन्छ ।
विदेशमा नर्सरीदेखि प्राथमिक तहसम्मका बच्चाहरूलाई वर्षमा एक दिन नजिकैको प्रहरी चौकीमा लगेर “सुरक्षा गरिदिएबापत धन्यवाद” जस्ता सन्देश लेखी प्रहरीलाई बुझाउन लगाइन्छ । यसले उनीहरूको प्रहरीप्रतिको सोच सकारात्मक रहन सहयोग गर्दछ । र तिनैमध्ये कति प्रहरी बनेर समाजको सुरक्षा दिने सपना देख्न थाल्छन् ।
गत हप्ता नेपाल प्रहरीको फेसबुक पेजमा यस विषयमा लेखिएको यो सन्देश साह्रै समयसापेक्ष छ । अभिभावकहरू आफ्नो बच्चाको सुन्दर भविष्य देख्न चाहन्छन् भने यसलाई मनन गर्नु जरूरी छ ।

How nice would it be to have many Facebook likes for your page. It is a core human instinct to long for popularity. It is as cool as amassing massive wealth and swaying power.
But wait, a high “like count” does not necessarily reflect your real “popularity”. So it seems.
I think Facebook is playing double standards with its “like” value. My experience has led me to believe that Facebook intentionally restricts the “reach number” for your posts.
I run a Facebooke page for Majheri.Com. It currently has a “like count” of 10K. A year back, my posts used to reach to about 10% of the audience. Now, that rate has declined to well below 1%.
While I am aware that followers can choose to unfollow posts (and yet keep the “like”), I find the drop very confusing and equally bewildering.
I suspect Facebook’s does it intentionally. They must have some business logic to calculate a threshold of “reach-count”.
It is normal for people to look for ways to increase the “follow count” with the hope of increasing the “like count”. Some desperate ones would not mind investing some dollars.
Now, I do not believe (would not like to believe, to be precise) my followers are fake. Yet, there is something fishy about Facebook’s business model.
Facebook’s “like” value is the key behind the social media’s success. It strikes people by heart. It nails people’s desire – desire to be popular and desire to be “liked”. I rank this feature with higher significance than Facebook itself.
Well, as Aakar says, Content is King. But marketing is the real force that makes contents kings. Do not rely solely on Facebook to get your contents to the audience. If you are considering investing some dollars to make your contents even more popular, I would advise you to think twice and think carefully.
The social media is a big mob filled with pick-pockets; stay vigilant.
Young, African-American, Woman. Characters that seem so unlikely at the center of GOP – and eventually the US and the World. That always seemed amazing.
How come she became a Republican in first place ?
How was she raised ? Was she an elite as a child ?
And pianist ?
A hardliner, as the world saw her.
While you will have to read the book itself to get the answers, one thing is for sure : she is a champion. Despite her upbringing in a heavily segregated neighborhood, she was expected to be “twice as good” as her white counterparts. And she delivered.
Diligence, dedication, strength, talent. These are the words that describe her.

The #JustineSacco case today reminded me of the Information Ethics lectures I took in the graduate school.
Who is Justine Sacco anyway ? While I leave it on to you and google for her background check, it is fair to say she represents a big institution. And this fact has worked against her in today’s case.
Just before the lady boarded her flight to South Africa today, she tweeted this.
That came from a senior PR executive of a company that owns Dictionary.Com, Match.Com, and many more. While she remained in bliss for the next 11 hours thousands of feet up in the sky, probably with some red wine in a business-class seat, the cyber-world below went turbulent.
Ms Sacco’s tweet came, most probably, out of light humor. But not many were amused. She now has her Twitter account suspended. She has offended millions of people. And her career could be in question.
Definitely, the information you send in Facebook and Twitter does not necessarily reach the receiver the way you want it to. People are people after all – they have their own ways of interpreting your message.
A few months back, a professor of my own university found himself in disgrace after repetitively firing offensive tweets.
The professor eventually tweeted an apology. That came only in the next morning after visiting his furious bosses. Meanwhile, he did not forget to blame alcohol for his actions.
Next is a case of Mr Prakash Dahal. This is a screen capture of his Facebook statuses before and during the vote-counting of the recent election. See the contradiction. He should be thanking the lord for filling Nepalis with merciful DNAs. 🙂
Moral of the story : use the social media to the full. But be careful of the consequences your actions may invite. Go through your post for one last time before clicking Post/Enter/Reply buttons. You may be about to make a fool of yourself. Your reputation and career may be at risk.

कथामा अविरल देखापर्छ इन्द्रावती नदी जो माझीहरूको लागि कुनै बेला जीवन दिने जननीको रुपमा देखा पर्छ भने कुनै बेला जीवीकोपार्जन गर्ने उपाय खोस्ने कठोर राक्षसको रुप लिन्छ । र प्रकृतिले पनि खडेरी र बर्षाको रुपमा घरीघरी निमुखाहरूको परिक्षा लिइरहन्छ ।
यिनै टाउके, चम्चा-टाउके, विपक्षी-टाउके, शोषित निमुखा, र इन्द्रावती नदीको बिचको सम्बन्ध सहजसँग सचित्रण भएको छ उपन्यासभरि । लाग्दछ, यो उपन्यास काठमाण्डौंको आरुबारीको घरभित्र नभई इन्द्रावती अगाडिको त्यही बस्तीमा बसेर लेखिएको हो ।
खगेन्द्र नेपालीको स्वरले यस उपन्यासलाई निकै न्याय दिएका छन्, अँझ भनुँ यसलाई साह्रै जीवन्त पारेका छन् । उनको स्वर त बीबीसीमा पनि सुनेकै हो । तर उपन्यासमा भने पत्रकारितामा नभेटिने एकतमासको न्यारेसन् भेटिन्छ ।

पुस्तक लेखिएको तीस बर्षपछिको अहिलेको परिवेशमा पनि यसको कथा असान्दर्भिक लाग्दैन । फरक यति छ कि, तत्कालीन चम्चा-टाउकेहरू र विपक्षी-टाउकेहरू अहिले टाउके भएर निस्केका छन् । युग अनुसार जो चलेका छन् तिनले पञ्चबाट काँग्रेस, राप्रपा, कम्युनिस्ट, माओवादी आदिका रुपमा काँचुली फेर्दै टाउकेको ठाउँ लिएका छन् । तर जो पिल्सिएका थिए, ती त अँझै त्यहीं देखिन्छन् ।

This stone stands near the entrance of the Namdaemun (officially Sungnyemun) Gate of South Korea.

This writing not only describes the history of the Gate and Korea but also shows Korea’s determination to preserve its history and culture.
Samrat Upadhyay takes readers from the lower middle-class struggling to survive in Kathmandu’s deras to the reigning class’s lavish lifestyles. Stories are sometimes spiced with plots in the United States and India too.
The protagonists in each story have their own everyday problems to solve. Most of them have inferiority complex. They are, at the same time, disturbed with premarital and extramarital affairs.
I expected this book to be full of social miseries of struggling Nepalese middle class. That is well received. Upadhyay defies our expectations – he goes one step further by portraying human sexual desire in the backdrop of adversaries facing the characters’ lives.

घाइते बालिकाको तत्काल उपचारको व्यवस्था गर्न र घटनामा संलग्न शिक्षकलाई कारबाही गर्न इन्सेक सप्तरी सम्बन्धित निकायसँग माग गर्दछ ।
